Special Monthly Meeting - Sunday 22nd April

Written by Andy Hancock

Our meeting for April will be held on Sunday 22nd April at 11:30am in the Nescafe Cafe in Harajuku.

With the Yamathon finished, we will be discussing future fundraising events, upcoming workshops and quizzes...

....and looking for some interested parties to join the board.

We are looking for volunteers to step forward for the following roles:

- Awareness Coordinator - someone to coordinate our monthly Awareness Workshops.

- Fundraising Coordinator - someone to organise our pub quizzes.

- Webmaster - someone to maintain our website

- President - someone to keep us all in check!

What we really need are people who can spare a little time to help the IVG keep running. If you are interested in Oxfam, you have any new ideas, or you're capable of taking over any of the above positions, please come along to the meeting.

Everyone is welcome!

Hope to see you there!

The IVG Needs You!

Written by Andy Hancock
Thanks for a great 2011/12...

First of all, we would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has attended IVG events over the last year and to all of the fantastic volunteers who have made these events happen. For the 2011/2012 financial year the IVG has managed to raiseover 1,400,000 yen for Oxfam Japan. This is a great achievement and something we can all be very proud of. You can see our financial report on our website.

...now the IVG Needs You!

I want YOU for the IVG
After our Monthly Meeting last Friday we were hoping to be able to announce the new IVG Board line-up for the coming 2012/2013 period. Sadly however, we were not able to elect a full boardfrom the volunteers who attended the meeting. The majority of this year's board are leaving Japan very soon, so this means that we urgently need new volunteers to step forward.

Volunteering on the IVG Board is a lot of fun and a great way to use your free time in Japan productively. It can help build up your skills and add substance to your resume/CV! You can commit as much of your time as you have available, but even giving up 1-2 hours of your week can make a real difference.

By volunteering now, you will be in a great position to shape the activities and direction of the IVG. If you're even half tempted then please get in touch, come along to one of our events, and get yourself involved. We need you!

The IVG has achieved a lot over the past few years and it would be a great shame to see what we have established go to waste. Sadly there is a real risk of that happening unless people step up and volunteer. If you enjoy coming to our IVG events, then now is the time to take action to make sure that they can continue!

Awareness Coordinator

Our programme of regular Awareness Workshops form a core part of the IVG's activities and need someone responsible to oversee them. Booking the rooms, finding facilitators and helping people develop their workshops are all key parts of the role.

Being Awareness Coordinator puts you at the heart of the IVG and is a great opportunity to improve your presentation and informal educational skills, as well as giving you the chance to network with outside organisations.

Website Coordinator

The IVG currently has 3 websites:

ivgjapan.org
tokyo-yamathon.com
sea-to-summit.org

We also have the Facebook group and Twitter account

Are you the person with skills and know-how to keep an eye on them? Being Website Coordinator allows you to gain experience in web development and in using social network sites professionally - skills which are very in demand these days!

Something Different?

Do you have other skills that you could contribute to the IVG Board?

Everyone has different talents to bring to the party. Every IVG Board is different and has changed in form from year to year. There is plenty of scope to divide up tasks and responsibilities according to your preferences.

The most important qualities you must have are drive and commitment!

March 16th IVG Board Elections

Written by Ben Nazer

Elections for 2012/2013 Term

IVGwantsyou

The IVG use the Japanese financial year as the basis for each term. In March we'll hold elections for a new board to start in April, an exciting opportunity for YOU to get involved.

This is all about creating a new team, and what roles people take will be decided by you and for you. Take control, make a plan and go into action to support Oxfam Japan. Supporting Oxfam means raising money, but more important is our work to increase its public profile.

In The UK and US, Oxfam is recognised as one of the most effective, active, and visible organisations tackling global poverty and injustice. In Japan, there is much less understanding of the vital work Oxfam does.

Board positions are entirely voluntary, but the rewards are incredible! By supporting Oxfam Japan, you are helping to save lives and make the world a better place.  To consider applying you should be available for the whole term April 2012 - March 2013.

To get some ideas about positions you might volunteer for, have a look at the current board members page

To apply or to find out more, come to one of our upcoming board meetings or email Ben:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
