International Volunteer Group (IVG)

The IVG is a group of English-speaking volunteers who work together to support Oxfam Japan in their mission to find solutions to global poverty and injustice.

The IVG aims to create awareness within Japan about the issues that Oxfam deals with, and raises funds to support Oxfam’s work. We are an entirely volunteer-run group of people from all over the world with a desire to make a difference!

Raising Money

We raise money for Oxfam to support their vital work in developing countries. By attending one of our many fundraising events, you’ll be donating directly to Oxfam – all while having a blast!

If you're up for a physical challenge why not take part in the Tokyo Yamathon or the Sea to Summit, get yourself sponsored and raise some money to help the world's poor while testing yourself to the max!

If you're more of a bookworm than a fitness freak you can show off your trivia genius at our regular Pub Quizzes, held at Heaven’s Door in Shimokitazawa. Bring your friends and form a team, or come and join one of our teams!

Raising Awareness

In addition to raising the profile of Oxfam within Japan, we also aim to raise awareness of issues surrounding global poverty. One way we do this is through our English-language Awareness Workshops which give participants a chance to explore a particular global issue with others in a fun and interactive way. Come along, share your knowledge, express your opinions, improve your English and learn something new!
